TinyGods

We’ve been handing out these buttons at PAX advertising this little site, and then realized we should have a post up here mentioning it.  So yeah, if you got one of our buttons at PAX and actually came to visit the site, welcome!  Drop a comment and let us know.

Once again, I’m getting a late start. I’ve made some improvements to my stupid game from last night, but I don’t have time to mess with that right now. It’s looking like some decent progress has been made on our main project. Time for me to get to work! I’m going to get my level editing on.

Our first evening is winding down. Pasty has been doing all kinds of fancy physicsing. Chuck has been playing terrible music and also programming. Sullivan has produced some hilarious art. I should have a lot more details to post tomorrow, but for now I will present to you my contribution for the evening: Teh Stupid Gaem!

It’s pretty dumb. Just click on the dude to make him jump over the bad thing and you win. It was thrown together using jQuery. It’s not nearly as awesome as what the other guys have been working on, but it’s something.

See you tomorrow!

What’s up, folks? This is your pal Mandrake LIVE BLOGGING from the official Tiny Gods Game Jam taking place at la casa de Chuck. We’re jamming some games and pounding down some Mountain Dew Throwback.

Pasty is doing some coding. Ran and Idan are tossing around some design ideas. Sullivan is drawing lots of pretty pictures. Chuck is setting up some source control for us. I arrived a bit late, so I’m still trying to snag myself a worthwhile role. I figured I might as well document things.

The theme for the Global Game Jam is “Deception” but we’re going with “Escape” because we don’t let anybody tell us how to jam. I’ll post more as progress is made.

Another usurper to the TinyGods throne has emerged: TheTinyGods.com

I’m not sure if we’re feudin’ with them yet; stay vigilant.

We’ll start with the good shit:

  • I got a Google Wave invite and invited 6 of my friendiest friends
  • Google launched Building Maker including downtown Columbus, OH

Wow, that shit is good. I’m excited about that shit, personally and professionally.

But that ain’t all!  As if to prove that there is no god, this shit also went down:

  • The fat idiot in front of me at Wendy’s got a Diet Coke and a half-vanilla/half-chocolate Frosty
  • Adrien Brody will star as Arnold Governator in Robert Rodriguez’s Predator reboot

Holy fucking shit!  2012 and the Mayan Apocalypse can’t come soon enough!

Anyway, if the planet doesn’t ex-/implode, then we’ll be integrating some Waves into the TinyGods site as those features become available.

Tiny Gods has crossed the three year mark, and Pasty has secured two more years of web hosting goodness for the site.  Let’s get year four kicked off proper like, with some activity here on the front page!  Write some stories, recount adventures, post pictures of attractive people, whatever.

There were a total of 92 posts published in year three, an increase of 8 over year two.  In this time, we saw the beginning (and end) of the Tiny GodCast and the Tiny Gods WoW Guild.  Our pal Fezzik stepped up and revived the ‘Babe of the Month’, which then prompted the start of the ‘Beefcake of the Month’ (which without these, there would have been entire months with no posts).  What other great moments am I missing? What do you want to see in Year Four?

I had started this post weeks ago, but forgotten all about it when this news came in:

GeoCities will close later this year.

It’s soul-crushing news.  A small neighborhood in my heart, named Area 51, just got demolished.  Without further bullshit, here is the award for Web Host of the Decade:

TRIPOD!

Look, there’s not a whole lot I need to say.  They gave us web space when we needed it, we uploaded shit, and they never took it down.  We don’t really need this stuff now, but it’s great to see all these unintential time capsules all over the web.  Below are some sites we started back in the dial-up days and into the Napster era – the Golden Age of Web 1.0 (formerly known as the World Wide Web).

Back before Twitter and Blogger and Facebook and WordPress you had to WRITE HTML and upload that shit over and over until it worked.  These weren’t just free places to store stuff, they were our offices and our workshops.  Tripod and competing sites gave us the tools to craft our own childhoods out of hypertext markup.  I can’t thank them enough, but I can memorialize them (and burn AngelFire in effigy).

Enjoy:

Post your old hosted sites in the comments so we can all enjoy them!

Hello, and welcome to the Tiny Gods lost-and-found desk. If you’ve lost something while visiting us here at tinygods.com, there is a good chance that you’ll find it here! What was that? You did lose something? Hmmm… You say you lost a Tiny Godcast? Well I do have one of those back here. These are very valuable items, so I hope you aren’t offended that I must ask you to describe it to me. I wouldn’t want you to run off with somebody else’s Tiny Godcast!

Ok, so you say that it includes:

It does look like this Godcast belongs to you. They are all very unique, after all. Are you sure you still want it? It’s pretty old. It looks like it has been sitting on Mandrake’s computer gathering dust for a few weeks. I guess that’s what happens when a responsible Tiny God such as Sullivan passes the task of editing to a lesser god, eh?

What’s that you just said? Tiny Godcasts get better with age? You are so right! Here you go, and have a nice day!

Edit: Pasty asked me why I tagged this post as “Babe of the Week” and, even though I wanted to keep these sexy images off the site, I feel obligated to answer with PICS!

Thanks to everyone who’s been maintaining the site – it’s running better than ever.  Here’s some dots:

  • WordPress has been updated to 2.6.2 (from 2.6.1) so we’re up-to-date codewise.
  • The new theme is very slick (and supports Widgets) so it’s great to have that installed.
  • If anyone has suggestions or criticism for the sidebar/widgets or anything just go ahead and throw it in the comments for this post.
  • We’ve discussed a lot of swanky changes for the upcoming author pages, I’m excited for the glorification!
  • The new (2.6.*) branch has an improved Admin setup over the old code, so if you haven’t written a post in the last month – go give it a whirl!
Lastly I’d just like to thank everyone who’s been posting here because I really enjoy reading it!  I went the better part of a month without posting anything (which usually indicates a general lack of interest) and TG was more interesting than ever.  This is likely not a coincidence.  The rest of you were doing an avg of 5posts/week, which is incredible, so keep writing, for the love of gods!
