Pelecanus gluttomundus, the world swallowing pelican, was recently established as a species. For æons it was believed that Polochanga, the space-faring god of all pelicans (whether they believed in him or not), was a unique entity. Upon further inspection of the universe, thanks entirely to modern scientific advancements in intergalactic optics, it was realized that Polochanga was not a single bird but the collected sightings of dozens of Pelecanus gluttomundus as they fly past Earth in a cosmologically large flock.Â
Adherants to Orthodox Pelicanism still revere Polochanga as their one true god, dismissing the multiple pelican theory (MPT) as “an ignorant assessment of partial facts, utterly lacking in understanding and faith.” Â Reform Pelicanism accepts that Polochanga is but a symbol for the greater metaphor that Pelecanus gluttomundua represents, ie. the world swallowing space pelican as a planet-moving (if not -destroying) force in the universe. Â Reformist Pelicans see the interstellar flocks as proof of “something larger going on in the universe – larger being used in the literal sense”. Â
No proof exists that the world moving pelicans eat their planetary mouthfuls, but the obvious analogy to normal pelicans delivering fish to their young is clear. Â Physicists are as of yet uncertain if the simple act of collecting the planet in the beak pouch would produce a shock that would kill every living thing on the planet – but several nuclear-simulation-grade supercomputers have been tasked with the complex simulation (results pending as of writing). Â
At this time, no Pelecanus gluttomundus are known to be inbound to Earth.
